Presidency: One good reason to go for Obama - despite the crisis
Remember this? The following editorial appeared in february 2008 on our site when, honestly spoken, most of our media colleagues did not bet on Barack Obama as President. Today many of them forgot their attitude and don't really understand why they (mainstream) applaude. OK folks, as President Obama starts his work next week, here are the reasons why it was the only wise choice to elect the man from Chiacago. (Grafics: RUB University, Germany)
It is difficult for a non American to explain why Barack Obama should be the next US President. But let’s put it this way: The next President should understand whom to trust when listening how to act on crucial fields like stemm cell research, genetics, healthcare or science. Most editors agree Hillary Clinton is the one to explain better, knowing more and even being involved deeper on these issues. “Inspiration vs. Substance” wrote Joe Klein in TIME – Barack’n roll we reply at LifeGen.de.
Senator Obama is fighting for change, and this means: He will be able to change the old structures in science and research, without needing to be an expert himself on these fields.
Big pharmaceutical companies for example could face a new public understanding of science: Are their pills und drugs really worth the money they cost? Should private companies decide who is able to get the best therapy, instead of letting Universities and governmental agencies work on this field?
Barack Obama could have the power to make the giants on the market understand that growth is connected to social responsibility – the comeback of this old American characteristic would be appreciated worldwide.
The question is not “Inspiration vs. Substance”, but Change and Substance. That’s the reason why Barack Obama deserves his chance.
